The One Irrefutable “Feel Good” Thing About Facebook

Whether you are an avid Facebook fan, a casual user or someone who abhors the site, there is one irrefutable benefit of the social network; Birthdays.

You all know what I’m talking about.  If you have your Birthday in your profile, Facebook announces it to all your friends.   This niffty little feature makes your Facebook page blow up on your special day.

Yesterday was my Birthday and my Facebook wall was lighting up every 10 -15 minutes with Birthday wishes; friends from high-school, college, people I hadn’t seen in a while, family members and more were just blowin’ up my stream.

Back in the day, you’d be lucky to get more than 5 cards, mostly from friends and family.  We might get 5 or 6 calls on top of the handful of cards, but that’s about it.   Birthday’s were mostly a local, strong-tie affair.  Now, on Facebook, Birthday’s are full on, warm and fuzzy, feel good affairs, where weak-ties, strong-ties, old friends, new friends, and family all get into the Birthday wishing spirit.  A Birthday on Facebook is like having your own public holiday.     I think this is pretty cool.

I had, what felt like, 100’s of  Birthday wishes yesterday.  It was fun!

In spite fo all the controversy around Facebook being a good or bad, there is one irrefutable truth.  It’s the goods on your Birthday.
