“You’re an idiot!” At least that’s what one of my readers said about me after receiving this email titled- I Don’t Give a Shit About Sales Status
(click here to see the video)
This is his entire email response:
“You’re an idiot. I’d never buy anything from you with unprofessional emails like this. Take me off your mailing list. I swear you have no clue what you’re talking about.”
Here is another one from another reader, although she was much kinder.
“This was a very offensive email.
I didn’t appreciate seeing this as a subject line in my email this morning.
I have unsubscribed and I am no longer interested in your blog.
I suggest you rethink some of your ideas. Especially this one. Being vulgar and offensive is no way to obtain new business.
I wish you success in all that you do.”
I also received similar emails to these after my booty call post.
I have to admit, It’s hard sometimes getting these emails. I’m not trying to be offensive and I don’t like offending people. I appreciate the readers of this blog and the A Sales Guy Community as a whole. That’s why I do what I do. I love helping people improve, grow, change etc.
The A Sales Guy Community is amazing. It’s the best feeling when I get to work with a client or a reader from the community and we change their organization around for the better. I love the notes people send me, telling me they got the sale, increased revenue or whatever because of something they learned from the blog. I love it.
But, I get it! I’m not for everyone. I choose to be provocative. I choose not to censor my language. I choose to push the limits. I choose not to water down my brand and whitewash it like other corporate brands. And, there is a cost to this choice. I get to be called an idiot.
Do I push it too far at times? It’s possible. That’s where my learning comes in. I don’t ever want to be gratuitously vulgar or inappropriate. That’s not my goal. I need to be constantly vigilant that I know where the “line” is. My goal is to be informative, provocative, entertaining and engaging and I do believe that cussing can be a healthy part of doing just that.
If you find my stuff offensive, I apologize. I won’t be offended if you unsubscribe. I won’t even be offended if you call me an idiot. I’ll admit, it might sting a little, ’cause it’s personal. But hey, I get it. It’s the price I pay for not being like everyone else.
